It's been a long week for our country, and it will likely be an even longer weekend. We don't know about you, but the news has been on continuously in our home and it seems we're reaching for our phones every few minutes to refresh election results or check social media.
That's why this weekend, we're taking a break from media and screens and being intentional about our mental wellbeing. We encourage others to take a break, too. Remember: overall wellbeing is inclusive of caring for our bodies, minds, and spirits. Here are a few ideas to help you practice.
1. Go for a Walk
Depending on where you live in the USA, fall is likely in full swing. If you live in a warmer state, it's probably just starting to cool down. Take advantage of the shifting season and get outside this weekend. Go for a walk around your neighborhood or take a longer stroll in a new part of town. Leave your phone at home and focus instead on clearing your mind.
2. Try a New Recipe
One of our favorite fall activities is baking. Try your hand at a new recipe this weekend--or a few. If you need some ideas, here are our favorite casseroles for fall and some delicious (but healthy) baked goods.
3. Read a New Book, Write in Your Journal
It's been a wild week, and your journal could use a recap. Take an hour or two this weekend to write down your thoughts and process everything that's going on in the world. Alternatively, pick up a new book and give your eyes a break from screens.
4. Go for a Hike
If you've been around the blog a while, you know we love hiking. Take in the fall colors and the cool air with a long hike this weekend. This is a great activity for your mind and your body!
5. Take a Nap
After a week like this last one, it's normal to feel exceptionally tired. Our bodies and our minds need rest, and if you haven't been sleeping well the last few days, consider getting in a long nap this weekend.
