Why You Should Add Hemp Seeds to Everything

hemp seeds

First, let’s begin by stating that hemp seeds, while a variety of the cannabis plant, are not marijuana. While the seeds do have trace (we’re talking really small) amounts of naturally occurring THC, consuming hemp seeds does not have any psychological effects on your body. Rather, research has found hemp seeds to be incredibly beneficial to your health. Here’s why:

Hemp Seeds are rich in Omega-6 and Omega-3

Both omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids areimportant to our health. Omega-3 protects us against heart disease and has an anti-inflammatory effect on our body. Some research has also found omega-3 can help to prevent diabetes and cancer. Omega-6, an essential fatty acid, canalso fight inflammation, as well as help to treat rheumatoid arthritis, reduce high blood pressure, and support bone health. Because our bodies don’t produce omega-6 on their own, we must consume it through foods. And hemp seeds can help with this.

Hemp Seeds are Rich in Protein

With more than 25% of the total calories from hemp seeds being high-quality protein, it is an excellent source of protein, especially for those on a plant-based diet. 2-3 tablespoons of hemp seeds (about 30 grams) contain 11 grams of protein. Hemp seeds are also a complete protein, meaning they provide all the essential amino acids.

Hemp Seeds Can Aid Digestion

Hemp seeds contain high amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber and therefore benefit digestion. Soluble fiber is beneficial for reducing spiked blood sugar and regulation cholesterol, while insoluble fiber helps food pass through your gut. Hemp seeds have also been shown to relieve constipation.

Hemp Seeds Benefit Your Skin

If you have dry or flaky skin, consuming hemp seeds may help. Hemp seed oil is often used in lip balms and lotions to help promote healthy cell growth and softer skin so eating a few tablespoons of hemp seeds every day is believed to maximize the benefits.
