Vukoo Protein Bars

One of the biggest questions I get from Vukoo customers is –

“Hey, Christopher, 
Why do you make such a big deal out of the fact your bars are soy-free?”

It’s a valid query, I mean – soy’s one of the widest-consumed “health foods” across America, right?

We’re always told that swapping out meat and eating more veggie products will do us the world of good, and that vegetarians are so much healthier than omnivores.

So why then, am I – a guy who’s all about health, happiness and longevity – so anti-soy?

But It’s a “Superfood.”

Traditional soy – the kind you get in oriental cooking isn’t all too bad.

It’s a source of complete protein (meaning it has all the essential amino acids that your body needs for optimum function, and that your muscles and cells require for repair and recovery). Plus, it does have some potential life-increasing benefits.

Soy beans and edamame are kind of okay too … in moderation.

But the soy we get in the Western world?

Well – that’s a different thing all together.

Soy Isn’t Soy 

I refer to the soy we get here as “new soy.”

You get it in –

  • Soy milk
  • Soy chips
  • Soy cheese
  • And even soy burgers and hot dogs.

This stuff is FAKE FOOD.

It’s infused with chemicals, preservatives and additives, and really doesn’t have any place in the diet of anyone who cares about their health, performance and productivity.

See, this kind of soy is high in phytates and anti-nutrients.

That means it can actually block the absorption of many important vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Add to that the fact that soy can do some nasty stuff with your hormones (as we’ll discuss in just a minute) and you’re on a real losing streak.

Wreaking Havoc with Hormones

You may well know a little about the importance of hormonal function and maintaining hormone homeostasis.

We can talk about calories, macronutrients, good foods and bad foods all day long, but if your hormone levels aren’t balanced, the type of diet you follow and your calorie intake don’t matter a jot.

Unfortunately, soy does some serious damage to your hormone levels –

A high soy consumption can make your testosterone levels plummet.


This is bad news.

Lower testosterone means your sex drive is reduced, you lose muscle mass, gain fat easier, get tired and just don’t have that get-up-and-go.


You might not be aware of it, but testosterone is just as important for you, too.

Sure, you don’t have as much as us men, but you do still have some, and too little test will give you all the same side effects as above.

Plus, lower testosterone means you’ll also have more estrogen.

While you do require estrogen, elevated levels means you’re much more likely to carry stubborn fat around your hips, stomach and thighs.

Bottom Line … 

You can’t avoid soy completely.

With the foods we eat on a day-to-day basis in the modern world, unless you grow, cultivate and cook every single meal from scratch, eating some soy is inevitable.

In small amounts, soy isn’t too much of an issue.

But you absolutely DO NOT want to add any extra into your diet.
