4 Tips for Maintaining Wellness During Self-Isolation

Routine looks a bit different these days. Here are a few of our favorite tips for maintaining wellness during this period of self-isolation:

 

1. Wake up/Go to bed at the same time each day

It's easy to lose track of the hours when you're literally doing everything at home. Too many times this week, we've found ourselves sleeping in longer than anticipated, or staying up too late to watch a movie. Unusual sleeping hours can mess with our health and wellness routine, though. It's essential to go to bed and wake up at the same time each day to regulate our circadian rhythm. Have set timestamps for the day also encourages us to stick to our routine in other areas.

 

2. Maintain Hygiene

It may seem like an obvious one, but I'm guessing a lot of hygiene practices have gone out the window this week. Things like putting on deodorant, taking a shower, washing one's clothes-- these habits are essential even when you're not leaving your home or socializing with others. Take care of yourself by brushing your teeth and your hair. You'll feel better for it. 

 

3. Eat Meals at Regular Times

When I'm working from home, it's easy to snack when I'm hungry. Because I don't have a set lunch break, I find myself perusing the kitchen whenever I feel like it. But it's important for our health and wellness to maintain regular eating schedules. This means choosing healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It also means forgoing snacking habits (unless it's a Vukoo bar). Just because you're at home doesn't mean you should eat all day. Practice healthy boundaries. 

 

4. Exercise--Preferably Outdoors

One silver lining in all of this is the fact that we can still go outside (as long as we're practicing social distancing). Hiking trails remain open, and parks are available as fitness space. It's crucial, of course, to exercise caution and wash our hands rigorously, but we should also utilize open space and get fresh air. Go for a run, hike with your pet or take your bike to the mountains. Let nature do its healing work--for your body, mind, and soul.
