6 Foods for Healthy Eyes

Taking care of our eyes is an essential part of maintaining health. We all should be caring for our vision by protecting our eyes from the sun (as well as screens), and by visiting the eye doctor regularly for check-ups.

In addition to medical visits and wearing protection though, we can be proactive with our eye health by eating nutritious and organic foods. Here are our six favorite foods for optimal eye health.

1. Nuts

Rich in Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, nuts are not only delicious but incredibly healthy for your eyes. Because Vitamin E can help protect our vision from age-related damage, we should all be eating nuts like almonds, cashews, peanuts, Brazilian nuts, and walnuts on the daily.

2. Leafy Greens

Is there anything leafy greens aren't good for? Along with the many other health benefits of kale and spinach, these delicious greens are fantastic for your eyes. Lutein and zeaxanthin, both of which are present in leafy greens, help with retina and vision health.

3 + 4. Carrots and Sweet Potatoes

Orange, delicious, and perfect for fall, carrots and sweet potatoes are both excellent foods to eat for eye health. Carrots, often revered as the king food for vision, are rich in Vitamin A and beta-carotene - both of which are thought to benefit and protect your vision. Sweet potatoes also rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin E, so eat up!

5. Strawberries

Packed with Vitamin C, strawberries are rich in antioxidants that can help fight cataracts. They are also wonderful for your skin, protect your heart, lower your blood pleasure, AND are high in fiber. Make sure to include this delicious fruit in your daily diet.

6. Green Tea

If you think you love green tea now, you will be happy to hear this calming beverage is also great for your eyes. Researchers believe the antioxidants in this popular beverage can lower your risk of cataracts.
