3 Essential Oils With Dietary Benefits

Throughout history, our ancestors have used essential oils for medicinal, aromatic, and general well-being purposes. Essential oils, while not as mainstream today, still offer these same remedies and natural benefits.

Oils can be used topically or with a diffuser. Many people enjoy adding oils to their baths, beauty products, or household cleaners. Some oils can even be ingested when diluted or combined with foods (make sure to consult your doctor and read the instructions before ingesting essential oils).

Essential oils also offer various dietary benefits, in addition to eating whole foods and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Not only can specific oils aid digestion and relieve bloating, but some can even encourage weight loss and improve your metabolism. Here are a few of our favorites:

Grapefruit Oil

Grapefruit essential oil can benefit weight loss due to its metabolism-supporting and cleansing compounds. Researchers have also found that grapefruit oil regulates critical body functions and reduces cravings.

If you are trying to lose weight or reduce unhealthy food cravings, rub a few drops of grapefruit oil on your wrists and chest. You can also use it in a diffuser at your desk to help prevent midday snacking.

Ginger Oil

You may be familiar with ginger oil as it is commonly used to relieve bloating and reduce nausea. This essential oil also helps your body to absorb vitamins and minerals properly. Rub a few drops of ginger essential oil on your stomach after eating to improve digestion and support your body’s cellular energy.

Cinnamon Oil

Cinnamon essential oil is excellent for helping to regulate your glucose levels and balance blood sugar. Cinnamon oil can also help keep arteries clear of build up, reduce ulcers, and fight parasites. This oil can be ingested (always follow the instructions on your bottle) and works well in baking or as a flavor-booster for your tea.
